Friday Morning Coffee #13

Happy Friday, my friends. Here we are at the end of another week.

My Friday/weekend took an unexpected turn. Yesterday, I was writing innocently away when a patch of moving color caught my attention. I turned to the window to see two familiar faces walking up our porch steps, and my heart leaped. My parents made the long trek from Pennsylvania to surprise me for my birthday this weekend, and what a delightful surprise it was! I am greatly looking forward to spending time with them. And it's a special treat to not be drinking my Friday morning cup alone.

Earlier in the week, I took lovely trip down to Gordon-Conwell. Some of my closest girlfriends there are on the brink of graduation, and we got to enjoy one last work day with all three of us. I don't realize how much I miss the community and atmosphere of the seminary until I'm there again. And then I remember what a special sort of place it is. It's not perfect, but it is precious.

I'm reminded of how thankful I am that the Lord has provided just the right friends for the right seasons of my life. He knew it wasn't good for us to be alone, and I'm grateful for the dear people He brings along for life's journey.

Driving around in the north shore area this week, I was struck again by the beauty of the place. The old Georgian houses in their New England blues and yellows keep watch as they have for generations. You catch unexpected glimmers of a small pond, fingering out amongst an irregular collar of trees. Here's this town forest, this wildlife refuge, this historical site, this nature reserve. I fight to keep my eyes firmly fixed on the gentle winding of the roads, as the beauty draws my attention. It's a beautiful place we're living in.

Exciting discovery of the week: Boston Symphony Orchestra offers $20 tickets for those under 40 years of age. (Maybe this is common knowledge, but it was a revelation to us!) Scott and I will be attending in the next couple weeks for my birthday. If you live in the Boston area, or are coming to the area from out of town, be sure to check out the BSO's $20-under-40 deal.
